Archive and Local Studies

Situated on the ground floor of the Museum & Library building, the Archive and Local Studies Searchroom holds a large collection of printed and manuscript documents. These documents range in date from Medieval deeds to modern posters advertising recent events in the town.

Historically the documents have been split into two categories – the Archive and the Local History Collection. The Local History collection largely consists of printed material, photographs and other images. The archives mainly consist of handwritten documents. Both collections are invaluable to anyone researching local or family history.

To learn more about the two collections and how to search them click here for Archives and here for Local History.

Members of the public can consult documents from both collections in the Search Room which is situated on the ground floor in Warrington Central Library. In some cases you may have to use a surrogate copy – for example when the original is too fragile to be handled.
