The Museum  collection features almost 2,000 artworks including several by nationally important artists who studied at Warrington School of Art. Luke Fildes and Henry Woods went on to become leading figures of the Neo-Venetian school. Sculptor John “Warrington” Wood provided many important commissions in Liverpool. His masterpiece ‘St Michael Overcoming Satan’ (1874-7) was specifically commissioned for the new art gallery and now stands in our entrance hall.

The museum also holds a number of paintings by internationally renowned artists. Jan Van OsSir Frank Brangwyn and L.S. Lowry are all featured in the collection and are frequently on display.

Over recent years, the Museum has collected artwork from a number of contemporary artists exhibiting here such as Louise Giovanelli, Iain Andrews and Elbow Toe.

In addition to fine art the Museum’s decorative arts collections include over 5,000 decorative art objects, including many examples of locally-produced glass.
